Our Reading Garden is Here!

On Saturday, February 4 our Glenfeliz Reading Garden and Outdoor Classroom finally came to life!  A huge thank you goes out to Leonardo Chalupowicz and Tomas O’Grady from EnrichLA for their incredible vision and assistance with this project.  We were touched and amazed to see over 125 volunteers throughout the day, including City Councilman Eric Garcetti who stopped by on his birthday to lend a hand.  Thank you to all of our dedicated parents, teachers, students and staff who gave up some of their precious weekend time to make this dream a reality and a big thank you to the many volunteers from our community and from USC who came out to help us.  EnrichLA’s nutrition director Kelly Burke provided us with a beautiful, organic meal, including salads, strata and lots of yummy fruit.

We built benches, tables and planters, as well as digging and planting our new park, adjacent to the Reading Garden.  Everyone, from our fabulous Principal Ms. Sulahian, to our smallest volunteers rolled up their sleeves and worked hard all day long.  It was truly amazing to watch our garden grow throughout the day.

Thank you to Lowe’s Toolbox Grant for funding our dream.  Thank you also to Jill’s Paint, who gave us a discount on our mural supplies, and to The Village Bakery for the yummy goodies donated to our mural painting.  Finally, thank you so much to everyone who helped us build something special that will give back to Glenfeliz students for years to come.
