Bring your picnic blankets, books, bikes, hoops, and anything "picnic" to have fun under the sun!We will be spreading our blankets by Griffith Park's historical Merry-Go-Around. Refreshments will be served, but please don't hesitate to bring your favorite picnic dishes to share. :)

ENRICHMENT PROGRAM SURVEY
As many of you are aware, we are working
to launch an after school enrichment program (operational by September
2009)! We want to
accommodate as many students as we can, and in order to do this we need to find
out how many families would be
interested in attending.
If you are a parent/ guardian of a student who is currently attending
or planning to attend Glenfeliz in the future, please click the link
below and fill out the survey so that we can
plan the best program possible for our students.

GET INFORMED, GET INVOLVED
LAUSD recently
approved to allocate a large portion of federal stimulus money to
"administrative costs". What is "administrative costs" and what does
that mean to you and your child? Will it impact your child's classroom?
There are many ways to find out:
1) Talk to your child's teachers and staff at school. Ask them what they think.
2) Attend School Site Council meetings (call 323-666-1431 for meeting schedule)
3) Get involved in parents groups, FOG and PTA (323-666-1431)
4) Visit United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) website
5) Visit LAUSD website

CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS
URGENT!!!
OUR SCHOOL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS
In
light of recent budget cuts by LAUSD, Glenfeliz will most likely see an
increase in class sizes starting this Fall, and we might even lose some
wonderful staff...
It's disappointing and we are ALL frustrated
by this, but we cannot fail our students because of this. More than
ever now, we must show our community resolve and dedication to
Glenfeliz Elementary.
The best way to show your support is to VOLUNTEER.
You can be a parent, a grandparent, or a community friend. The school
could use volunteers in classrooms, the library, and other places- we
think that the need will be even greater in the coming Fall.
To become a volunteer:
1)
Fill out an application- Applications are available at the front desk
of our school, or you can download .PDF Applications here. If you
cannot download this file, please contact us at info@friendsofglenfeliz.org.
2) Take a TB test and submit the result and the application to the school front desk (TB test cannot be no older than 6 months)

CALLING FOR GRANT WRITERS
We are looking for pro-bono grant writers who
know the ins and outs of writing grants, or who have no experience but
are interested in pitching in to help!
There are many endowments and foundations that are willing to provide lots of
$$$ to enhance the academic and arts curriculum at the school.... WE JUST NEED
TO APPLY!

CALLING FOR A WEB DESIGNER
We are currently looking for an experienced web designer to redesign the FOG website.
We
want our website to be "interactive" and have features like calendar,
forum, and announcement post. The end product must be easy to
navigate, maintain and update.
This will be a great addition to your web design portfolio.

The Banner Program invites our local business
owners to purchase a banner to advertise their businesses on a school
