HAPPY RETIREMENT, MS. ROSENBLUM!
Carole
Rosenblum, our school principal, has announced her retirement for the
end of June. Ms. Rosenblum has been a great supporter of FOG, and our
first year of operation would not have succeeded without her generosity
and informed advice. We thank her for her support and wish her all the
best!
--------------------------------- A letter from Ms. Rosenblum: ---------------------------------
June 10, 2009
Dear Glenfeliz Students, Staff, Parents, Community Members and Volunteers,
As
we close out the 2008-09 school year, I want to personally thank each
and every person who has, in their own way, contributed to the welfare
of our students at Glenfeliz Blvd School. There are so many people who
have made positive contributions in support of our students and, it is
because you do, that our students thrive. Your support is of the utmost
importance, and it is deeply appreciated.
For the past 38 1/2
years, it has been my privilege to work for the students and staffs at
various schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District, and my
deepest honor to have served as principal of Glenfeliz Blvd. School for
the last 14 1/2 years of my career. Thus, it is with the heartfelt and
mixed emotions, that I officially inform you of my retirement effective
June 30, 2009.
My decision to retire from the Los Angeles
Unified School District was not made lightly and was difficult because
of my attachment to the wonderful Glenfeliz Blvd. School community;
but, as all things in life change, it is time for me to leave and
transition to a different path. My life's work has been to serve
children which I will continue to do, but in a difference capacity. My
greatest honor was to serve your children whom I deeply love. Thank you
for having trust in me to serve your beautiful children and, I thank
the Glenfeliz Family (students, staff, parents, community members and
volunteers) for making my assignment here the best of my career.
In
closing, I ask each of you to continue to work together collaboratively
next year for the welfare of our students. The 2009-2010 school year
will be very challenging due to the District's declining budget and
loss of personnel resources in our schools. It is of tremendous
importance that you make every effort to bring support to the incoming
principal and continue to work as a team for the success of our
children at Glenfeliz. I know you will do this. Thank you to each and
everyone and, best wishes always.
Sincerely,
Ms. Carole Rosenblum Principal

PICNIC BY THE CAROUSEL
On
Sunday, June 14th, FOG supporters brought their picnic blankets and
snacks to enjoy the summer breeze by the Griffith Park Carousel. It
was a fantastic opportunity to get to know other parents, and children
all enjoyed playing out and having some free rides at the carousel
(thank you, Mr. G!).
Many parents agreed that we should do fun, casual events like this one more in the future!!
Thank you for those who participated, and hope to see many more of you at our future events!

RESULTS ARE IN!
We recently distributed an Enrichment Program
Survey to all students at Glenfeliz, to gauge student and parent
interest in a new after-school program. We will use this survey to
inform our plans for this coming Fall. We have received 171 surveys
back as of today, and we're very excited about the results.
Here is a link to the survey results.
In
summary, we have found that many parents are interested in registering
their children 3~5 days per week. 50% would like to have their children
in the program until 5:30pm, while 47% would like to pick them up
before 4:30pm. Parents/ children are interested in a variety of
activities, including sports, art, and music and help with homework and
reading.
